Description

Amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate with lactobacillus (LB) is a combination medication used to treat various bacterial infections while helping to restore healthy gut bacteria. The addition of lactobacillus is intended to prevent or reduce digestive side effects often caused by the antibiotic components. Main uses Bacterial infections: The primary use is to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections in different parts of the body. The combination of amoxicillin (an antibiotic) and potassium clavulanate (a resistance-reducing agent) makes it effective against bacteria that have become resistant to amoxicillin alone. Preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD): The lactobacillus is a probiotic, or “good” bacteria, that helps to maintain or restore the balance of healthy microorganisms in the gut. Antibiotics can disrupt this balance, leading to diarrhea. Lactobacillus helps manage this common side effect. Infectious diarrhea: The medication can also be used to treat diarrhea caused by an infection. Specific infections treated Respiratory tract infections: This includes conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, and tonsillitis. Ear infections: For example, acute otitis media. Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Treats infections of the kidneys and bladder. Skin and soft tissue infections: Used for boils, abscesses, and cellulitis. Bone and joint infections: Treats more serious infections like osteomyelitis. Dental infections: Can be prescribed for infections of the teeth and gums. Important considerations Viral infections: This medication is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu. Completing the course: It is crucial to finish the entire prescribed course of treatment, even if you feel better. Stopping early can allow the infection to return and potentially lead to antibiotic resistance. Medical supervision: This is a prescription medication and should only be used under the direction of a healthcare professional.
